The F#$@ It Philosophy~otherwise known as surrender during more peaceful times

I created The F&*@ It Philosophy in 2005. I distinctly remember telling my now husband at the beginning of that year that great things were going to happen. And, sure enough, they did: I got engaged, married, started a new job as a Professional School Counselor, sold a home, bought a home, moved into a home, all while attending graduate school working on my Master’s. These were all very exciting and positive experiences happening in my life, but I will most definitely admit my stress and anxiety levels were sky rocketing. They were so high, at points, I often felt like I was barely holding on.

I finally decided the only way to get myself mentally through all the change was to adopt a new philosophy. Hence the birth of The F&*@ It Philosophy.  For those who know me personally, you know I believe words have energy, and I very seldom speak the F!@* word; however, this was where I was mentally at that time. F&*# bombs were a necessity. This philosophy literally got me through that year.

So, what exactly is this philosophy all about?

The F*&@ It Philosophy is simply: “Do your best and F*(^ the rest.” Now, with this being said, one must also remember that doing your best when you have a million things on your plate will look a little different from when you don’t.  The “F(*% the rest” part simply means you don’t get caught up in judging yourself for that.  You don’t second guess yourself.  You don’t beat yourself up mentally. You don’t worry about what other people might think or how they might judge you. You LET GO~TOTALLY. Seriously, this philosophy and the book Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach saved me.

Now that I’m a bit more calm and settled into life, I realize that The F&*# It Philosophy was really all about the art of surrendering~about putting forth my best efforts and surrendering totally (really: all. the. way.) without becoming attached to outcomes or judgements or results. Surrendering, for anyone who has tried it, can definitely be a challenge, but it’s so very worth it. The art of surrendering is one of the keys for living a peaceful, authentic, and shining life.

How and where could you surrender a bit more in your own life? How would it feel to let go of outcome or judgements or results?

I’ve been meaning to read Radical Acceptance. I know it is amazing; a good friend also mentioned it to me several times.

Absolutely agree! I love thinking back to 2005 when I practiced with you and imagining you dropping the •F•bomb! We all have moments where we can surrender into the chaos with confidence, the storm makes is stronger for the other side. I find myself in the mode to drop it, but really strive to honor those in my path as usually dropping the bomb can come with casualties to those who interact with the storm I juggle.
